About the event

Matthew Bowman, professor of history and religion at Claremont Graduate University, joins the Society for its January Colloquium, which ushers in a new year of lectures and events at the Society.

Prof. Bowman serves as the Howard W. Hunter Chair of Mormon studies at Claremont, and his work focuses on the history of new religious movements in the United States. He is the author or editor of a half-dozen books. Most recently, Prof. Bowman tackled the famous Betty and Barney Hill abduction case, in which the witnesses involved claimed to have witnessed - and then interacted with - UAP and beings associated with it. The Abduction of Betty and Barney Hill - Alien Encounters, Civil Rights, and the New Age in America, published by Yale University Press in 2023, and released in paperback form in early 2025, is a fascinating historical account of this oft-cited case, and should prove to…
